Once again, there’s a new report stating that the Galaxy S9 may feature an in-display fingerprint scanner. We’ve heard several reports about this tech before, some saying that Samsung will use it, and others saying that the company would be instead using an advanced Face recognition tech similar to the one found on the iPhone X.
However, the latest report is backed by some solid proof. Synaptics, the company that makes touch pads, and touch interfaces for computers, has launched a new fingerprint scanner that sits under the display. It’s called the Clear ID FS9500, and it has been developed for smartphones that have a bezel-less screen.

The tech can read a fingerprint with a single touch and can be placed under glass. It would also work with wet, dry, and cold fingers. And since it is placed under glass, the sensor would be well protected as well. The company also notes that this technology is up to 2 times faster than 3D facial recognition.
According to their press release, this in-display fingerprint reader is already in mass production and that a big name smartphone maker will use it in their upcoming product. Now, that sounds like Samsung to us, the Galaxy S9 and S9+ to be more precise.
Galaxy S9 processor to be 15 percent more efficient
The company also used the term infinity displays in their press release, so that’s more confirmation that the Galaxy S9 would be the first to use this tech. Still, we cannot be a 100 percent sure, so we will have to wait till Samsung unveils the phones next year.
According to reports, the Galaxy S9 and S9+ would be announced in late February and go on sale in April. Other specs of the phone include, the Snapdragon 845 processor, up to 6GB of RAM, dual-rear camera setup on the S9+, single rear camera on the S9, headphone jack, larger batteries, and Android Oreo on board.
