According to a new report, the Samsung Galaxy S8 would feature IP68 dust and waterproof rating. The Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge also featured this rating and were quite resistant to water and completely resistant to dust.
Even the recently unveiled Galaxy A3, A5 and A7 feature IP68 dust and waterproof protection. What this means, is that the smartphone is waterproof up to 1.5 meters under water for about 30 minutes. The number 6 in IP68 stands for the level of dust protection and 8 stands for water protection.
An IP68 rating is currently the highest you can get on a smartphone and it is becoming quite important to have it. People tend to drop their phones in water and take it to places that are covered in dust. Water and dust can ruin your expensive smartphone, therefore, manufacturers are offering the protection out of the box.
The report also mentions that Samsung is also considering adding the IP68 level of protection to its J series smartphones. The Galaxy S8 is supposedly going to be announced on February 26.
