Google has confirmed the official release date of Android 6.0 Marshmallow update, it’s September 29th. And we know for sure that Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P will be releasing at the event as first devices to run Android 6.0 update out of the box.
But if you’re an owner of Samsung Galaxy S5, your life is just about to get a little annoying as your S5 won’t get the Marshmallow update on Sept. 29th, nor the next month and neither the next two months.
Samsung will first release Marshmallow update for S6, S6 Edge, S6 Edge Plus and Note 5. Then, the Note 4 and Galaxy S5 will get the chance to receive the greatest of Android update.
Even worse, if you happen to own the device from one of four major carriers in US, then your Marshmallow update will be further delayed for sure. That’s how the carrier’s in USA make your smartphone live a miserable life, they delay major Android updates which supposed to breathe new life into them. Pity!
Anyway, we guess Samsung will be releasing the Galaxy S5 Marshmallow update in December or Q1 2016. And for the US carriers, it’ll be by the end of Q1 2016.
Let’s see Galaxy S5 Marshmallow update release date breakdown by US carriers:
Sprint Galaxy S5 Marshmallow update
Model number: G900P
The Sprint Galaxy S5 will receive the Marshmallow update just like the International variant will. However, the carrier may release the Marshmallow OTA only after the international variant gets it.
Expected release date: Q1 2016
T-Mobile Galaxy S5 Marshmallow update
Model number: G900T
We’re hopeful that T-Mobile Galaxy S5 will be the first carrier locked S5 in the USA to receive the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update. But still, we don’t it’ll reach before 2016.
Expected release date: Q1 2016
AT&T Galaxy S5 Marshmallow update
Model number: G900A
Galaxy S5 is a capable device to run Marshmallow update, so AT&T won’t have any reason to not update it to Android 6.0. So the update will be a pass from AT&T once it’s available by Samsung.
Expected release date: Q1 2016 (or early in Q2)
Verizon Galaxy S5 Marshmallow update
Model number: G900V
Galaxy S5 on Verizon will be getting the Marshmallow update around the same time AT&T does, but it’s most probably going to be the last S5 in US to get the update.
Expected release date: Q1 – Q2 2016
That’s all the knowledge we have to share with you on Galaxy S5 Marshmallow update. We’ll update this page as soon as we hear of any official announcements by Samsung or any of the US carriers for the update. Stay tuned..
