Samsung’s mid-range J series handsets including J7 Prime, J5 Prim, J5 2016, and J3 2016 are now receiving the July security patch via an OTA update.
The software version for the update is as follows for the said phones:
- Samsung Galaxy J5 2016: J500FNXXS1BQG1
- Samsung Galaxy J3 2016: J320FDDU0AQG1
- Samsung Galaxy J5 Prime: G570MUBU1AQG1
- Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime: G610FDXU1AQF1
The update has already been rolled out over-the-air which means users with the said phones should receive an update notification any time now.
Since it’s just a security patch, it shouldn’t weigh much in terms of size. So, you can download it over cellular data or Wi-Fi based on your preferences.

As for the changes, the update should bring along fixes for various bugs, system and stability improvements alongside the security patch.
It’d be wise to back up your data before installing the update so that if anything goes wrong (less likely) during the installation process you wouldn’t have to worry about your personal data.
Also, make sure to charge your device before installing the update.
