Spotify has been competing to be the number one music streaming platform for a long time. The company has been making subtle changes to retain its existing users while introducing features designed to entice newer users.
Spotify introduced Blend back in 2021 as a way to connect with your friends and family using music. The company is now taking this feature a step further with Friends Mix on Spotify. Let’s find out more about the same.
What is Friends Mix on Spotify?
Friends Mix is a personalized playlist available only to you. This mix is curated based on your music taste and the current listening trends of your friends. It contains suggestions and new songs based on both your tastes for a personalized playlist that is unique to you and your friend.
How to find the Friends Mix on Spotify
You can find your Friends Mix on Spotify mainly in the Made for Us section. Use the steps below depending on your current device to help find the same.
Note: Spotify’s Friend Mix is currently only available for the iOS mobile app. Support for the Android app is expected in the future.
On iPhone
Open the Spotify app and tap Search.
Tap Made for You.
Now check the Made For Us section. You should have your Friends Mix in this section.
On spotify.com
Open spotify.com in your preferred browser and click Search.
Now click Made For You.
You will now find your Friends Mix in the Made For Us hub.
Why don’t I have a Friends Mix?
If you don’t have a Friends Mix in your Made For Us section then it is likely because you haven’t created enough Blend mixes with your friends yet. You will need to create a minimum of 3 Blend mixes with at least 2 people each to get a Friends Mix based on your and your friends’ listening tastes.
It could also be that you’re using an Android device. The Android version of the Spotify app currently does not support the Friends Mix feature. This could be another reason why the Friends Mix is unavailable to you. You can use a desktop device to access your Friends Mix instead.
Blend as a feature was introduced back in 2021 and allows you to create custom playlists between you and your friends based on your music tastes. You can add up to 10 friends to a Blend mix and even create mixes with your favorite artists on Spotify.
How to create a blend on Spotify
If you don’t have a Friends Mix yet, then it’s likely because you haven’t created enough Blend mixes with your friends as discussed above. Follow the steps below to help create a Blend on Spotify.
On iPhone
Open the Spotify app and tap Search at the bottom.
Now tap the search bar at the top and search for Blend.
Tap and select Blend from your search results.
Tap Create a Blend.
Now tap Invite.
A share sheet with the invite link will now open on your device. Proceed to share the link with your friend using the preferred means or apps. Once shared, your friend will be able to join your Blend mix using the same.
Continue creating at least 2 more Blends on Spotify to get a Friends mix in your Made For Us section.
On spotify.com
Open spotify.com in your preferred browser and click Search.
Now click the search bar at the top and search for Blend.
Click the same from your search results. Blend should show up as a genre on Spotify.
Click Create a Blend.
Click Invite.
An invite link will now be copied to your clipboard. The same will be signified by a message at the bottom of your screen. You can now share this link with your friend and they can then accept the invite to join the Blend Mix.
Continue inviting friends and family to create at least 3 Blends on Spotify. Once created, a curated Friends Mix should show up in the Made For Us section soon.
