For those of you who are running Cyanogenmod 7 ( CM 7) or AOSP based ROMs on your Galaxy S i9000, we have come across a fix which enables Hardware acceleration on the Webkit based browser that is included with your ROM. Android OS supports graphical acceleration, but the app has to go use them. Fortunately most do, unfortunately the stock browser doesn’t 🙁
Which is why most people (me included) prefer to use Opera Mobile for a smoother and more seamless browsing experience on our phones.
Thanks to some tweaking by developer burakgon, we now have a flashable mod which enables this much needed fix on the stock Android browser. Please note however, that this is only to be used if you are running CM7 or another AOSP based ROM on Galaxy S i9000. Make sure you are running Android 2.3.4 or higher. People who have tested it seemed to have found that the browser performance had become smoother.
NOTE:
This MOD does not work for MIUI.
