Duet Night Abyss presents a dual-protagonist narrative centered on two leads: Phoxhunter, a survivor outside major power centers, and the Boy/Girl in the Dream, who navigates systems of authority. At the start of the game, players select the gender for each character independently. This choice determines how the characters look and sound during gameplay but does not alter the plot or the order in which the story unfolds.

The game alternates between Phoxhunter and the Dream protagonist, weaving parallel stories from two distinct viewpoints. You can assign a male or female gender to either character, regardless of the other's choice.

The art, in-game models, and voice acting adapt to these choices, offering flexibility in how you experience the story. For instance:

Choosing both characters as male, both as female, or one male and one female is possible, with all combinations fully supported by the narrative and gameplay.

Gender choice permanence and story impact

Once the game begins, the gender selections are permanent; there is no in-game option to switch genders later. Importantly, the story's core remains consistent no matter the gender configuration. Choose male or female gender presentation for Phoxhunter.

After completing Noctoyager Chapter 1, there is a cut scene. Independently select male or female for the second protagonist.

Step 4

Name the second protagonist, the Boy/Girl in the Dream.

Confirm selections to finalize characters for the campaign.
