One of the best Android tablets in budget range, the Sero 7 Pro now has an AOSP based Marshmallow ROM available. This could potentially become a reason some of us Android nerds could actually buy this tablet for.
The ROM isn’t perfect yet, but is under development and we hope that some bugs remaining are ironed out soon.
If you have a liking for using latest and greatest Android OS available, and don’t mind the petty bugs that come along, then give this Android 6.0 ROM a go. Not otherwise!
Bugs!
- External Storage – SDcard, USB storage
- Bluetooth – see Notes and Bugs below
- DRM
Notes and Bugs:
- Bluetooth – don’t even try to enable it! You’ll get continuous FCs in Bluetooth Share that will force you to reboot.
- NFC – this works but uses Bluetooth to transfer data, so it isn’t really usable now.
- Launcher – Launcher3 FCs whenever it is visible and you rotate the screen (but it does restart). It also FCs if you rotate while in an app, then return to the Home screen in a different orientation than the one last visible.
- Multi-Window – this actually works. To enable it, open Settings->Developer Options, then scroll down to the “Drawing” section. Multi-window mode is the last item in that category.

Backup!
Backup important files stored on your device before proceeding with the steps below, so that in case something goes wrong you’ll have backup of all your important files.
How to Install
Required: You will need to have TWRP recovery installed on your device to be able to install Marshmallow custom ROM and Google Apps (Gapps).
Find the Sero 7 Pro TWRP for Marshmallow here, and install it by flashing in your TWRP recovery.
If you don’t have a TWRP recovery right now, then too, download the file, extract twrp.img from it, and flash the twrp.img file using our guide for Nexus 5 TWRP here (procedure is same).
Step 1. Download the Marshmallow ROM and gapps file from above.
Step 2. Connect your device to PC and transfer the ROM and gapps file to it. Disconnect the device then. Remember the location of the files.
Step 3. Boot your Sero 7 Pro into recovery mode. If you are rooted, you can use Quick Boot app from play store.
If you see 3e recovery in recovery mode, then you need to install TWRP recovery for this (linked above).
Step 4. [Optional] Once in TWRP, create a backup of your device. Tap on Backup, and then select all the partitions for back. Now do the swipe action at bottom to start creating a backup for emergency cases. This backup is really a lifesaver!
Step 5. Do a Factory Reset. On TWRP’s main screen, tap on Wipe, then advanced wipe, and now make sure you have selected these partitions: dalvik cache, data, system and cache. Then do the Swipe action at bottom to confirm it.
Step 6. Now, install the ROM file. On TWRP’s homescreen, tap on Install, and then locate the ROM file and tap on it. Then do the Swipe action at bottom to begin flashing the update.
Step 7. Tap on Home button to go back. Now, install the Gapps the same way you installed Marshmallow ROM on your Sero 7 Pro.
Step 8. When it’s done, tap on Reboot system button to restart the device.
That’s it. Enjoy Android 6.0!
BTW, if you face force closes on apps, then use our guide to fix Marshmallow Google Play services error, then install the ROM as said above again, but do not flash Gapps for now.
