Galaxy Note 3 was an impressive device, and still is — after all, it packs in hardware that is quite capable of running everything you throw at it, but it is not going to get Marshmallow update from Samsung, however sad that is. But if you want Note 3 Android 6.0 update, then you can still get it on your device thanks to unofficial update in the form of custom ROMs.

To install an unofficial update, that is a 6.0 based custom ROM, you will first need to install TWRP recovery on your Note 3. Then, use the TWRP to install the ROM, which will get you Marshmallow right there upon restart.

The Note 3 Marshmallow update will get famous features like Doze mode, superior memory and battery usage stats, Now On Tap, ability to disable app permissions, etc.

Thanks to Doze mode and better handling of system resources in Marshmallow, it’s estimated that battery life could be increased of your Note 3 by around 20% straight away, without the need of any special tweaks.

You can install the Note 3 CM13 right away to begin the Marshmallow fun! Moreover, when other ROMs become available, switching between ROMs proves to be quite an interesting experience too.

Lastly, if you ever want to remove the custom ROM, and go back to Samsung firmware, just install the latter and your Note 3 will be back to factory settings, on Lollipop.

On the custom ROMs, which are based on AOSP Marshmallow code that Google makes available for the world to use. This means that the UI is pure Android one, as Google envisaged it, and you don’t have to bear with painfully colorful Samsung Touchwiz UI at all. It’s win-win with custom ROM.
