The Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 Android 5.1.1 Lollipop is now rolling out for the USA and Canada variant (T330NU) of the device.
The update is coming with build number T330NUUEU1BOG1. This is the first Lollipop update for the Galaxy Tab 4, which seems to have entirely skipped the Android 5.0 update and has directly been updated to the latest 5.1.1 build.
Earlier this month, the Android 5.1.1 update was released for the Korean variant of Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 (T330).
If you’re someone who cares about root access, know that this 5.1.1 update will break all known rooting methods for your Galaxy Tab 4. Also, you won’t be able to downgrade back to KitKat once you’ve installed this 5.1.1 OG1 build on your Tab 4.
Samsung’s Android 5.1.1 builds are updating bootloader on every device reached so far, and this bootloader is non-downgradeable. As for the root access, well, Galaxy S6 devices which updated to 5.1.1 have all received root now, so Galaxy Tab 4 will have a working root method (most probably via a custom kernel) as well on the 5.1.1, but it must pick some developer’s interest first.
All that said, Lollipop is pretty exciting and we would suggest you to update your Galaxy Tab 4 to Lollipop rightaway regardless of its root availability.
