What to know

  • Disney is avoiding collaborations with Roblox due to ongoing concerns about protecting kids on the platform.
  • Roblox boasts 151 million daily users, mostly young, but faces lawsuits for failing to block predators and inappropriate content.
  • The company added facial age verification and chat limits, yet experts call these fixes too easy for kids to bypass.
  • Disney’s strong Fortnite presence, including Marvel skins and Star Wars modes, keeps their focus firmly on the game.

Disney isn’t jumping into Roblox anytime soon. The game has over 150 million players every day, many of them are kids. But the safety issues are a big deal since the predators have slipped through, and kids have been exposed to all sorts of sketchy stuff. So for now, Disney’s sitting this one out.

Roblox has pushed back with adding security features like facial age checks to stop kids from chatting with adults, and tools to catch personal info sharing. Still critics like Ron Kerbs, CEO at child safety platform Kidas, told Variety that these features are easy to bypass, people can still trick the system by using someone else’s face or faking their age.

Meanwhile, Disney is all-in on Fortnite. They gave Epic Games $1.5 billion, leading to crossovers like Simpsons seasons and Mandalorian skins. Roblox has hits like Sonic, but no Mickey or Marvel… yet.

This decision shows how safety issues still hang over kid-focused platforms. Roblox says it’s fixing things, but Disney wants solid proof. Until then, Fortnite remains the safer bet.
