Dalang bursts onto the scene as one of Where Winds Meet's earliest major bosses—a massive white warhorse ridden by a shadowy Owner, charging through the misty trails of Qinghe region's Moonveil Mountain. You'll face this mandatory foe during Chapter 1's main quest “A Horse Neighs in the Forest,” a pivotal story beat that locks in your parry mastery and environmental tactics right from the outset. The encounter blends mounted charges, poison dart gimmicks, and stomp parry strings, serving as a perfect tutorial for the game's demanding combat rhythm without overwhelming new players.

Dalang mechanics
Phase 1
At the start, Dalang fights alongside the Mysterious Owner, who circles the arena firing poison darts at you. The key is to focus on Dalang, using its body to block the darts and turning the Owner’s ranged attacks to your advantage. Dalang uses charge rushes, ground stomps that release shockwaves, body slams, and quick head swings. Dodging sideways or jumping over shockwaves is critical. The Owner’s darts deal poison if they hit Dalang, so position carefully to exploit that.

Phase 2
Once Dalang’s health bar depletes, phase two begins with the Owner disappearing and Dalang becoming more aggressive. The stomp attacks, which chain together with a rhythmic pattern, become the main threat. Successfully parrying these stomps drains Dalang’s Qi, opening up powerful counterattack opportunities. Charges and body slams remain key moves, but the focus shifts to mastering timing for deflecting stomp strings and reacting to Dalang’s golden-glow super attacks, which require sprinting away to avoid massive damage.

How to beat Dalang
Follow this steps to defeat the Dalang Boss:
Phase 1
Step 1
When the fight begins, ignore the Owner and position yourself so Dalang is between you both—this keeps the poison darts hitting Dalang, giving you constant free damage while you focus entirely on him.

Step 2
Watch Dalang’s charging rush attacks and dodge sideways early before the charge hits you instead of last-second rolls.

Step 3
When Dalang stomps the ground and generates shockwave rings, jump to clear the area rather than trying to dodge sideways, as vertical evasion is more reliable here.

Step 4
Stay at mid-range so you can quickly reposition and keep the Owner’s darts hitting Dalang. Only attack after Dalang whiffs or finishes his combos—avoid committing to long strings while he’s still attacking.

Phase 2
Step 1
After the health bar breaks, the Owner leaves, and Dalang becomes more aggressive on its own. Prepare to focus all attention on reading Dalang’s patterns closely.

Step 2
Learn the rhythm of Dalang’s multi-stomp strings. Perfectly timed parries or deflections on these stomp attacks will drain Dalang’s Qi bar, staggering it and opening a large counterattack window.

Step 3
For Dalang’s melee swipes and body slams, parry if you’re confident or dodge to create space, then punish hard only after a clean parry or a clear whiff to avoid risky trades.

Step 4
Repeat reading and reacting to the stomp rhythm for repeated Qi damage and eventually finish the boss.

Tips
- Position Dalang between you and the Owner in Phase 1 to redirect poison darts onto the boss for free damage—never attack the Owner directly.
- Jump over ground stomp shockwaves instead of dodging sideways; parrying stomps works better in Phase 2 for Qi drain.
- Maintain mid-range distance to punish whiffs safely while keeping camera awareness of both targets.
- Master the stomp string rhythm in Phase 2—perfect parries chain for massive stagger and counter windows.
- Sprint away immediately when Dalang glows golden; these unblockable supers hit hard and can't be parried.
