Wireless keyboards and mice are pretty popular among those who don’t want to be sitting right in front of the computer desk all the time, making it comfortable to control your PC from a distance otherwise impossible with wired devices. Well, thanks to Monect, you can save some cash by not having to buy a wireless input device, and control your PC from your Android device instead.

Monect connects to your computer via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth and acts as a wireless keyboard and mouse – meaning you can be lying on your bed and control, lets say, the media player on your computer to play or pause media, or anything else that catches your fancy, by moving your finger across your device’s screen to simulate mouse movement.

You can even browse your computer’s drives, use the app to control your PowerPoint presentations, or use the Media mode for a dedicated mode for media control. The times I’ve wished I could just lie on my bed and watch videos on my PC while being able to control volume and playback, and Monect comes along as the perfect tool to do that.

For gamers, Monect is an even greater boon. You can make Monect act as a controller – there’s a dedicated mode for shooter and racing games, while the joystick mode can let you control any game that supports joysticks. Monect also makes uses of the device’s sensors (accelerometer, G-Sensor, etc), so you can simply move your mobile around to control that car in NFS Most Wanted (worked pretty well when I tested it), or aim for that bad guy in Call of Duty.

Monect is a free app on the Google Play Store, and the only thing you need to make it work is to install Monect’s companion program on your computer. To use the controller feature, you’ll have to enable test mode (to allow unsigned driver installation) on Windows, all of which Monect’s PC software does on its own, while other features of the app work without the need to install anything else.

Only Windows is supported for now, though Linux support is incoming. Hit the source link to download Monect for both your Android device (Android 2.2 and above) and the companion program for your PC.
