How to unlock dimensional travel using Memories command
In early access Hytale, you can’t just build any portal and jump to another world right away; the game gates this behind progression.
First, you need to collect at least 100 memories by exploring and interacting with the world. Once you hit 100 memories, the ancient gateway and portal fragments become available at the Arcanist's Workbench.
If you’re in creative mode or want to test this quickly in survival, you can use commands:
- Run
/memories unlock allto instantly unlock all memories. - If in survival, make yourself an operator first with
/op self, then use the memories command.
How to craft and place the Ancient Gateway
To craft an Ancient Gateway, you first need to record at least 100 Memories at the Forgotten Temple, which will unlock the Ancient Gateway recipe.
You can craft the ancient gateway at the Arcanist's Workbench using the following materials:
- Cobblestone: x30
- Thorium Ingot: x10
- Essence of Life: x10
- Essence of the Void: x10
Place the ancient gateway block wherever you want your portal to spawn (for example, near your base). When you interact with it, the game will tell you that it needs a fragment key to activate.
How to choose and craft a fragment key

Follow the steps below to open the Ancient Gateway and enter a new dimension in Hytale:
Step 1: Place the Ancient Gateway
Set your Ancient Gateway block in the world where you want the portal to appear.

Craft the fragment key for your desired dimension (e.g., Cobalt Key for Windrider Valley) and right-click the Ancient Gateway to insert it.
Step 3: Enter the Ancient Gateway
Once the portal forms, walk through it to be teleported to your chosen dimension.
What each dimension is like
Windrider Valley
- Time limit: 6 minutes.
- Features: Procedurally generated terrain with villages, high peaks with buildings, and some lootable chests.
- Loot: Iron tools, silver ingots, thorium ingots, thorium ore, leather, food, potions, and boom powder.
- Enemies: Mostly early‑game mobs; tougher ones higher up in structures like mage towers.
- Special: A mage tower may spawn with gold chests, armor, seeds, and more.
DragonSpire Weald
- Time limit: 7 minutes.
- Features: Large mountains, fur logs, redwood trees, and caves with iron and snakes.
- Lore hint: “A mythical beast sleeps here bound in an eternal slumber” (a frost dragon).
- Enemies: Scattered hostile mobs even during the day; caves contain iron and more threats.
- Note: The dragon is currently asleep and cannot be woken; it may be for future riding or boss fights.
The Dread Wade
- Time limit: 7 minutes to explore, plus 3 minutes during a “void breach”.
- Features: Swampy, murky shallows with poison trees and a giant tree stump structure.
- Lore hint: “A ravenous menace lurks at the heart of the swamp”.
- Enemies: Dangerous fauna in the swamp; the big stump likely holds tough enemies (though not heavily populated in early access).
- Atmosphere: Dark, eerie, with Stranger Things–style tentacles and crows.
How to return and reuse portals
Each time you use a portal, the fragment key is consumed and the portal closes after the time limit. When the portal closes, you are automatically teleported back to your ancient gateway in the overworld.
To visit the same dimension again:
- Craft a new fragment key of the same type (Cobalt, Adamantite, or Thorium).
- Optionally, place a new ancient gateway if the old one is broken or you want portals in multiple locations.
Each trip generates a fresh, procedurally created version of the dimension, so the layout, loot, and structures (like mage towers) will be different each time.
