ColorWare introduced a new "Blended" line of custom-painted AirPods today, offering Apple's wireless earbuds and headphones in subdued brown tones. The company now paints AirPods Max, AirPods Pro 2, and AirPods 4 in three neutral shades designed to blend in more naturally than Apple's stark white.

The new color options include a light cream "Glaze," a mid-tone "Toasty" brown, and a darker "Java" brown. ColorWare's neutral palette seems inspired by the earthy tones Apple has used for some Beats products, like the Kim Kardashian collaboration.

ColorWare's custom paint jobs come at a significant premium over Apple's standard pricing. The Blended AirPods Max cost $849, while AirPods Pro 2 run $439 and AirPods 4 start at $329 for the base model or $379 with active noise cancellation. That's roughly a $300 markup across the board compared to Apple's retail prices.

The company claims its proprietary painting process ensures long-lasting results, though some users report mixed experiences. One MacRumors forum user mentioned that two sets of ColorWare AirPods failed within a year, with microphone issues on one pair.

Beyond the custom colors, these are functionally identical to Apple's stock AirPods. ColorWare simply applies its paint finish to standard Apple hardware. For those seeking a more understated look than bright white earbuds, these neutral tones offer a pricey but unique option.
