Android 6.0 Marshmallow update is around the corner, and while Nexus devices will be the first to get the new update. A number of users will have their eyes set for CyanogenMod 13 aka CM13 to get a taste of Marshmallow release until manufacturers come with an official update.
Although not officially announced yet, but it’s a child’s play to guess CM13 will be the next version of CyanogenMod ROM for Marshmallow update as CM12 carried the Android 5.0 Lollipop release.
The question to care about is the release date of CM13, will it arrive before fast-paced manufacturers like Motorola releases the Marshmallow update? Well, most probably it’ll. In the end it all depends on when Google will release the source code for Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
As soon as source code for Marshmallow is released, various developer teams like CM itself will come with their AOSP based ROMs for Marshmallow. However, yet again, these ROMs will make it to Nexus devices first for them being the closest to Google’s AOSP code.
Still, it shouldn’t take much time for other Flagship devices to get CM13. After the Nexus devices we expect OnePlus One and OnePlus 2 to get Marshmallow based AOSP ROMs.
So really, what’ll be the best guess for CM13’s release date? If you ask us, it’d anywhere between 10-20 days of release of source code for Android 6.0 Marshmallow update.
Last year when Android 5.0 Lollipop released, it took around 30 days for CyanogenMod team to release first build of Lollipop based CM12 ROM. But that’s largely because Lollipop demanded a complete restructure of CyanogenMod ROM, which shouldn’t happen with the Marshmallow update as CM already has a material base now to begin with.
TL;DR
Expected CM13 release date: 10-20 days of release of Android 6.0 Marshmallow source code.
