Cellebrite data hacked, unlock methods for several smartphones leaked online

A hacker has leaked files on how to unlock various Android, BlackBerry and iOS smartphones, after the hacker got into the file system of Cellebrite. The hack originally took place last month, but the hacker has now released some files to the public.

Cellebrite is a company that manufactures devices that can unlock smartphones. The company supplies these devices to certain clients that mainly include government entities, law enforcement, etc. The hacker gained access to over 900GB of sensitive data, but has only leaked a part of it.

Among the leaked files, are methods to unlock or jailbreak older iPhones, Android smartphones and even BlackBerry devices. The hacker mentioned that even though the data was encrypted, it was easy to bypass the protection. Some of the files showed that Cellebrite devices had used methods created by the jailbreak community to crack the iPhone.

The hacker also told the FBI to be careful what they wish for. The hacker’s main goal was to tell the world that these encryption breaking tools will eventually come out. Cellebrite stated that the files do not include any source code and that the company monitors the latest forensic methods, tools, including public jailbreak exploits.
