T-Mobile has started rolling out a new firmware update to Blackberry PRIV units. The update brings with it January Android security patches and arrives as build number AAI459. Once updated you should see your security patch level set as January 1, 2017.
This isn’t coming out of blue to us, as thanks to Telus Canada, we already knew that BlackBerry was planning to release the January patch OTA soon for the PRIV, along with its DTEK50 handset.
The update is arriving as an OTA and weighs 126.3MB. So, you need to have sufficient available memory along with at least 50% charged handset. Getting connected to a Wi-Fi will surely help.
The Blackberry PRIV which launched back in November 2015 with Lollipop received the update to Marshmallow in six months.
If you’re seeing the update notification, you should probably download it right away. If not you can check for it manually by going to Apps > Settings > About phone > System updates.
