The Blackberry PRIV and Blackberry DTEK50 will soon be receiving a security update from Telus, Canada. The OTA is expected to roll out by January 16th and will bring performance and stability improvements along with bug fixes over the previous build. It is unclear as to whether the update will bundle in the December security patch or the January patch, but we believe it’ll be January security patch.
The Blackberry PRIV which launched back in November 2015 with Lollipop had gotten the update to Marshmallow in six months. The PRIV held flagship status with top of the line specifications and Blackberry heavily emphasizing on its enhanced security features. The DTEK50 is more of a mid-range device minus the legacy qwerty keypad. This device was launched last year in August with Marshmallow on board.
Blackberry prides itself over its own security enhancements it offers over other OEMs so this division too should see significant updates along with the Android security patch. In spite of diminishing popularity Blackberry is still pushing hard and even has a new smartphone on the line.
Blackberry’s hasn’t officially revealed yet if and when the Priv and DTEK50 will get the Android 7.0 Nougat update. However, if you’re comfortable installing the Android Nougat update unofficially, you might wanna check our Lineage OS download page for any upcoming builds for Blackberry devices.
