Benchmarks tests are non-traditional but tried and tested routes of finding out stuff about devices before they actually hit the market. Dutch Techtastic recently did some digging around on CompuBench — a benchmark testing site — and unearthed an entry for a device code named HTC 0PK71, which we strongly suspect is actually the much awaited HTC One M9 Plus.

Why do we think so? Well in the first place, the One M9 is supposed to be code named 0PJA1. Also, according to CompuBench, the phone under the lens had a 5.1-inch, 1440 x 2560 resolution display (576 ppi) as compared to 5.2-inches, 1440p — the rumored specs of the M9 Plus.

Well, Assuming the phone is the One M9 plus, the specs pack quite a bunch of surprises. Though the RAM and the Internal storage are pretty standard at 3 GB and 32 GB respectively,  HTC has provided a 20 MP rear camera, capable of 4k recording and — surprisingly — a 13 MP front snapper for the selfie addicts, what’s more, Htc has replaced the Qualcomm Snapdragon processor opting instead for MediaTek’s MT6795.

While technically MediaTek’s most recent chip should hold its own with the Snapdragon, being able to support 720p video recording at up to 480 frames per second, the ground results, obtained by comparing Snapdragon 805 powered version of the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 with the MediaTek processor told a different story.

That being said, the device is probably still a prototype and will receive tune-ins before its final launch. Also, if the rumors can be believed, the MediaTek powered version may have been intended for Asian markets, with a later, Snapdragon powered variant aimed at the western, Qualcomm favoring part of the globe.
