Battlefield REDSEC is now live, marking the franchise’s first free-to-play experience. Built on Battlefield’s iconic DNA, REDSEC, short for Redacted Sector, offers a massive 100-player battle royale set in Fort Lyndon, a sprawling coastal desert map in Southern California. The map features nine major points of interest and 16 additional POIs, ranging from beaches to military complexes, all designed for tactical destruction and squad-based gameplay.
Players can choose from classic Battlefield classes—Assault, Engineer, Support, and Recon—each with unique abilities and upgrade paths. The battle royale mode emphasizes squad play, with both four-player squads and duos available. The closing circle is a deadly wall of fire that instantly kills anyone caught outside, adding a new layer of urgency to matches.
Gauntlet and Portal: New modes and creator tools
Alongside battle royale, REDSEC introduces Gauntlet, a fast-paced, squad-based elimination mode. Eight squads compete in a series of dynamic missions, with the bottom two teams eliminated after each round. Missions vary, including decryption, extraction, and territory domination, ensuring no two matches are the same.
Portal, Battlefield’s powerful sandbox tool, is now available for free in REDSEC. Players can create custom experiences using Fort Lyndon, Gauntlet, and Battle Royale assets, including weapons, vehicles, and modes. This gives the community unprecedented freedom to design and share unique gameplay scenarios.
Battlefield 6 Season 1: New maps, modes, and weapons
Season 1 of Battlefield 6 launches alongside REDSEC, bringing new content to both the main game and the free-to-play experience. The first phase, Rogue Ops, features the Blackwell Fields map, the Strikepoint mode, and three new weapons: the SOR-300C carbine, Mini Scout sniper rifle, and GGH-22 sidearm.
Strikepoint is a high-intensity 4v4 mode with no respawns, focusing on capturing a single point. The Armored Transport Traverser Mark 2 vehicle is also introduced, providing infantry support and spawn points for squads.
Season 1 Roadmap: Content rolling out through December

Season 1 will unfold in three phases:
- Rogue Ops (October 28): Blackwell Fields map, Strikepoint mode, new weapons, and Battle Pass.
- California Resistance (November 18): Eastwood map, Sabotage mode, new weapons, and Gauntlet Rodeo mission.
- Winter Offensive (December 9): Ice Lock event, Empire State map update, new melee weapon, and Portal updates.
All new content is available for both Battlefield 6 and REDSEC, with functional and cosmetic rewards unlocked through the Battle Pass. The premium BF Pro tier offers additional perks, including tier skips and exclusive unlocks.
