Finally the AT&T Samsung Captivate Glide gets it share of Ice Cream Sandwich goodness. Yes, it’s a bit late in the day, and Jelly Bean is the flavor of the season. But better to get last year’s flavor than none at all. AT&T has announced on its official blog that AT&T users who have the Captivate Glide will be able to update their handsets to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, starting tomorrow, November 10th.
Incidentally, the Android 4.0 update had originally been released for the Captivate Glide earlier this year in September, but had to pull it back due to errors in the firmware. Letting bygones be bygones, it is back now for the Glide, and here to stay for good this time.
The Ice Cream Sandwich for the the device will be available at the official Samsung page for the Captivate Glide, and users would need to visit the page using a desktop computer to be able to download and apply the update starting tomorrow. Of course, step-by-step instructions would be provided by Samsung on the web page.
The new update will deliver the Android 4.0 experience that Captivate Glide users have anxiously waited on for quite a while now. Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich features a better browser experience with faster page loading, offline reading mode, as well as the ability to view a webpage in desktop mode. Also included is Face Unlock, as well as the ability to access the camera or phone dialer directly from the lockscreen.
Android 4.0 also introduces a much improved notifications system, overall performance fluidity and better multitasking. While the AT&T Captivate Glide may not be lucky enough to see a further update to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, Ice Cream Sandwich will definitely be a significant improvement over Android 2.3 Gingerbread that the device has been running since its launch last year.
