Released in April 2016, the Galaxy Express Prime is not one of those Samsung phones that you’d expect to receive software updates every month, but the Korean company, in conjunction with American carrier AT&T, is giving you an OTA update that installs a new Android security patch.

Even though not the latest, the installed December Android security patch is not something to ignore. As noted, updates directed towards the Samsung Galaxy Express Prime are scarce and when one comes your way, you better grab it wholeheartedly.

Despite launching with Android Marshmallow, the Galaxy Express Prime has already been updated to Android 7.1.1 Nougat. With this in mind, the security patch currently rolling out is based on Nougat. This update shouldn’t bring any major changes to the way the phone worked before, rather, it only installs fixes to bugs and errors as well as improves performance and general system stability.

The Galaxy Express Prime has model number SM-J320A and as such, the update being rolled out carries build number NMF26X.J320AUCS3BQL2 and weighs just 24MB. As noted, the only thing mentioned in the changelog is the updated security patch. Other than that, there isn’t much the update brings.

While this OTA might not come with any new features, the fact that it’s a security update is enough to ensure that you don’t miss it. As usual with any other OTA update, it will take time before all AT&T-based Galaxy Express Prime units receive the prompt to download and install it. If you can’t wait, now is the perfect time to hit the phone’s Settings>Software update menu. But before you hit the download button, do make sure that your phone’s battery is at least 50% charged or have it connected to a power source during the update process.

Meanwhile, Samsung is getting ready to roll out Android Oreo OTA for the Galaxy S8 and S8+. The pair has been cleared by the WFA and if all goes well, the stable version should be out in 2-3 weeks’ time.
