AT&T Galaxy S6 Active, the most recent and toughest device of Galaxy S6 family will obviously get the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update, but don’t be surprised if the device is neglected for a while and shadowed behind the Marshmallow update rollout for AT&T Galaxy S6 and S6 edge.
This has happened to all Galaxy Active series devices. Because of their less popularity from the main flagship Galaxy S series device, the AT&T Active series devices get the OTA updates a bit later.
Well, that said, the AT&T S6 Active being 2015 flagship will receive the Android Marshmallow update as soon as AT&T S6 and S6 edge gets it.
If you aren’t new to Android, you’d know how much AT&T sucks when it comes to rolling out the freshest Android updates to its devices, even the flagship ones like Galaxy S6.
Following on AT&T’s long record of Android update schedule, we’d guess it’d easily take up to 90 days for the carrier to release Marshmallow update to S6 and S6 edge, and another 15-30 days for the S6 Active.
Google announced the Android Marshmallow update yesterday at an event alongside Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P. The search giant will be releasing the latest version of Android (6.0) to its own Nexus devices by October 5th. Google will also merge the Android Marshmallow source code into AOSP around the same time.
So 90 days from the release of source code + extra 15-30 days for AT&T’s leisure would land your AT&T S6 Active Marshmallow update by Q1 2016. We know that’s bad, but that’s AT&T rolls.
Expected release: Q1 2016
