AT&T Galaxy Alpha gets an OTA update with December security patch, build G850AUCS1BOC8

No this is not the Nougat update or even the Marshmallow update. The more than 2 year old Samsung Galaxy Alpha is still running on Android 5.0.2 Lollipop. The AT&T variant of the smartphone has received a new security update today. It is currently rolling out to all users via OTA.

This update is for the AT&T Galaxy Alpha with the model number G850A and the build number is G850AUCS1BOC8. The US versions, or this AT&T model, comes with the Snapdragon 801 processor. The update weighs around 385MB and installs the latest Android security patch. Before installing this update, make sure your device is sufficiently charged and is connected to a stable WiFi network.

Samsung will probably never update the device to Marshmallow, as there seems to be no reason to. The device is old and outdated, however, you will find unofficial Marshmallow ROMs for it. That would also mean you’d have to unlock the bootloader and root the device.

Just to jog your memory, the Galaxy Alpha came with a 4.7 inch 720p display, 2GB of RAM, Snapdragon 801(US) or the Exynos 430(other regions), a 12MP rear camera, a 2.1MP front camera, and a 1860mAh battery.
