According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple plans to launch a base MacBook Pro with the standard M5 chip before the launch of the M5 Pro and M5 Max models. The report states that Apple is testing MacBook Pro models with the yet-to-be-released macOS 26.0.2. Code details revealed in macOS Tahoe indicate that the M5 Pro and M5 Max MacBook Pro models will launch in early 2026. They will run on the macOS 26.3 operating system. Two screen size variants will be available: 14-inch and 16-inch. After beta testing, macOS 26.3 is expected to be released in January next year. Future-generation upgrades are rumored to include features such as OLED display, touchscreen compatibility, built-in cellular connectivity, and M6 chip. In terms of CPU performance, the M5 offers significant improvements over the M4. The M5 chip is expected to deliver up to 12% faster multi-core CPU performance and up to 36% faster graphics performance compared to the M4 chip in the current iPad pro. Other devices expected to be updated with the M5 chip this year include the iPad Pro and Vision Pro. New models of the MacBook Air, iMac, Mac mini, and Mac Studio are not expected to launch before next year. The reason for the delay is still unclear.
