Although about a week later, Samsung Galaxy A5 2017 is finally receiving Android 8.0 Oreo in Canada. We had earlier reported that the OS will be rolled out by Rogers and Fido to the handset alongside the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge beginning June 11, but it’s only the latter duo that lived up to this promise.

It’s never easy to keep a promise when it comes to software update release dates. A tiny thing can force the rollout to be pushed back and this is probably why the Galaxy A5 2017 Oreo update didn’t roll out on the promised date. Nonetheless, it’s finally here and if on Rogers, at least, you should watch out for the download notification anytime from now.

It’s been weeks since the first Galaxy A5 2017 unit received the update to Android Oreo, but this was in Europe, where the phone is sold unlocked. In Canada, we are talking about carrier phones and hence the delayed rollout of Oreo in this market.

It’s an OTA update meaning it will take some time before all Galaxy A5 2017 users in Canada receive the download notification. While you can try a manual update via the Settings > About phone menu, it’s easier to wait for the update to arrive via the usual channel.
