HMD Global’s Nokia 8 received Android 8.1 Oreo back in January 2018, but this was the beta version. After trialing the software for less than a month, the Finnish company began rolling out the stable version in mid-February.
The company made this information public on Twitter and while it has since been four months, it appears that not all regions have received the Oreo 8.1 update on the Nokia 8. This is true because we’ve just received a tip from one of our German readers that the software rollout has just commenced in the European country, where the update is coming in as version V4.88B.
This is an OTA update and thus may take time before all Nokia 8 units in the country get the download notification. There’s room for waiting for this notification to show up, but you can try rushing in the update via your phone’s Settings menu, although there’s no guarantee this trick will work.
Despite the delay, Nokia 8 is still one of the few handsets that are guaranteed the Oreo 8.1 update and is also expected to be among the first to receive Android P when the stable version rolls out somewhere in Q3 2018. So far, it’s only the Nokia 7 Plus that has access to Android P beta, details of which we’ve covered here.
