In March, a Samsung rep said that the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge will receive Android Oreo somewhere in May-June 2018. Earlier this month, global variants of the devices appeared on the Wi-Fi Alliance with Oreo on board, adding more weight to what had been reported earlier.
Later on, Canadian carrier Fido jumped in with its own release date details, confirming that users of the S7 pair will start receiving Oreo in May, but there was no mention of specific dates. Things recently got even more interesting after traces of Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge Oreo firmware for European models popped up online, prompting suggestions that the update will be out before the end of this month.
All this time, details of when the OS will hit U.S. variants of Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge have remained scarce, but this is no more. The Wi-Fi Alliance has cleared multiple variants of the two phones, be it carrier or the unlocked models, with Oreo running the show. For what is worth, all five major carriers have had their models cleared by the WFA, which suggests that the OS is almost here.
Besides U.S. variants, the WFA also cleared Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge variants for other regions, which further implies that the OS could be rolled out in multiple regions at the same time. Looking at all these developments, it’s becoming likely that S7 and S7 Edge Oreo updates may be outed very soon, probably before the end of this month or in early May.
