It’s finally here! Samsung is now rolling out Android Oreo to the Galaxy S8 and S8+. As promised, the OS is first targeting those who were in the Galaxy Beta program, where the update weighs about 500MB.
The Galaxy S8 is receiving an update with software version G950FXXU1CRAP while the S8+ is getting version G955FXXU1CRAP. The updates not only install Android Oreo, but also the latest Samsung Experience UI 9.0 and February 1, 2018, Android security patch level.
Looking at the model number, the Galaxy S8 Oreo update is now available in Europe, more specifically, Germany, but those in the U.S., India and other markets that took part in the beta program should also join the party sooner than later.
Samsung had confirmed that beta testers will receive Oreo a day ahead of the rest, which means that everyone else will start receiving the new OS as from tomorrow. Unlike the Google Pixels, this update doesn’t bring Project Treble to the S8 twins.
As usual with OTA updates, it’ll take time before all Galaxy S8 and S8+ handsets receive the OTA notification. If you want to skip the queue, you might want to keep hitting the “Download updates manually” option in the Settings menu until the update comes your way.
