The Amazon Fire Tablet runs on Android, but it’s nowhere close to the Android OS Google developed. The Fire tablet features a heavily customized version of Android that is hard to be recognize as Android by an untrained eye.

And if that wasn’t enough, Amazon has also removed the Google Play Store from the device and replaced it with its own Amazon App store for downloading apps and games. However, you an I both know that Amazon’s app store is no competition to the Play Store and has much less apps on board.

So, if you’re someone deep into Android, you’d want the Fire tablet to run the Stock Android to get the value of the price you paid for the device.

Thanks to the folks over at xda, you can now install the Android 5.1.1 based CM12.1 ROM and get vanilla Android OS on your Fire Tablet, along with added CM features.

The Amazon Fire Tablet CM12.1 Lollipop ROM is under developmental stage at this time, so has certain bugs that you might not like to deal with like “broken bluetooth functionality”, but other than that the ROM is pretty good to install as daily driver.

You can grab the Amazon Fire Tablet CM13 ROM from the download link below and simply flash it over your device using TWRP or any other custom recovery of your choice.

Also, since CM12.1 is an AOSP based ROM, you’ll also need to flash a Lollipop compatible Gapps package separately to your device to be able to use Play Store and other Google services on the ROM.
