Alexa Plus Expands in the US With Prime Bundling and a New Free Chat Tier

What to know

  • Alexa Plus is now available to Prime members in the US at no extra cost.

  • Non‑Prime users can try a free chat tier via Alexa.com and the Alexa app.

  • Unlimited Alexa Plus access is $19.99/month without Prime.

  • Rollout expands beyond the US through early access and beta programs in more countries.

Alexa Plus is now broadly available in the US for Prime members, delivered via updates on compatible Echo devices and access through Alexa.com and the Alexa mobile app.

Amazon says the service is moving from early access into official availability in the US, after a year of scaling the program to tens of millions of users.

Pricing and access tiers

Prime members in the US get Alexa Plus included at no additional cost, while non‑Prime customers can pay $19.99 per month for unlimited access.
A new free tier lets non‑Prime users try the Alexa Plus chat experience on Alexa.com and in the Alexa app (positioned as a “try” option rather than full feature parity).

Where it works and how to get it

In the US, Amazon says Prime members can access Alexa Plus across Alexa-enabled devices, Alexa.com, and the Alexa app, and can also initiate the upgrade through voice (“Alexa, upgrade to Alexa Plus”) or by signing in on Alexa.com.

You can opt out or revert after upgrading, which matters if the new experience doesn’t fit how a household uses Alexa.

Regional availability beyond the US

Early access has also rolled out to Canada and Mexico, while a closed beta is being tested in the UK, Germany, Italy, and Spain with plans to expand.Separately, Amazon has been positioning Alexa.com as part of making Alexa Plus usable beyond speakers, so the assistant can be used in a browser for longer, chat-style tasks.

Alexa Plus is positioned as a generative-AI rebuild of Alexa, aiming for more natural, conversational requests and a chatbot-like experience across voice and text.
