To be honest, I had no clue Amazon actually had its own game development studio, till we heard that it has released its first title for Android earlier today, an air-combat themed tower defense game called Air Patriots.
Air Patriots lets you control a squadron of fighter planes by letting you command a squadron of fighter planes by drawing paths on the screen to maneuver the planes to the right spots, in order to defend your territory and battle the enemy. Unlike traditional tower defense games with stationary defense bases, Air Patriots offers the flexibility to adjust their strategy on the fly, by drawing new flight paths and redeploying your resources wherever the in-game situation most requires it. You can equip your squadron with 13 different types of planes, which you can commandeer across 28 levels and 7 different maps (Only the first 3 maps are free). The more victories you score, the higher your ability to unlock more airplanes.
Considering it is Amazon’s own in-house product, it is not surprising that Kindle Fire owners get some special goodies, by way of taking advantage of Amazon’s Whispersync technology to save the game progress data to the Amazon cloud.
Android users can grab Air Patriots from Google Play as a free download. There is apparently some hiccup in compatibility with the Nexus 7, which is on the process of being sorted out. Kindle Fire users can get the game from the Amazon Appstore. If you’re up for some aerial combat themed tower-defense action, hit the download links below. It’s a 31 MB download, so you can check out this short gameplay video clip to prep yourself before you take off.
