In Gothic 1 Remake, find Melvin at the Swamp Camp’s second preaching circle where Baal Tyrondal preaches — he’s sitting with 2-3 novices listening to the sermon, not next to Juro like in the original game. This location is essential for completing the New Souls For The Brotherhood quest in Chapter 1, which rewards 500 XP and earns you Baal Tondral’s vote to join the Brotherhood faction.

Step 2: Navigate to Baal Tyrondal’s Preaching Circle

From the swamp entrance, follow this path:

  • Follow signs toward the Alchemy lab from the entrance.

  • When you reach the first preaching Guru (Baal Cadar), continue a bit further.

  • Follow the sign toward the fighting area.

  • Baal Tyrondal (2nd Preacher) is right there — just a short distance away.

  • Melvin sits there with 2-3 novices, listening to Baal Tyrondal preach.

Step 3: Talk to Melvin

Speak with Melvin until he mentions his friend Dusty who remains at the Old Camp. He’ll tell you life at the Gurus is better than dealing with Gomez’ guards. This conversation triggers the next quest phase.

Step 4: Return to Dusty at the Old Camp

  • Head back to the Old Camp marketplace (located at the south end of the outer ring).

  • Speak to Dusty and pass along Melvin’s message.

  • Dusty decides to join the Brotherhood but cannot leave alone.

Step 5: Bribe the South Gate & Escort Dusty Out

  • Go to the south gate of the Old Camp.

  • Bribe the watch with 100 ore to let Dusty pass through.

    • Important: The north gate guard cannot be bribed — only the south gate accepts ore

  • Escort Dusty back to the Swamp Camp by leading him — he won’t follow automatically.

Step 6: Finish the Quest at Baal Tondral

  • Return to the Swamp Camp with Dusty.

  • Speak to Baal Tondral (the preacher at the second circle) while Dusty is present.

  • Baal Tondral thanks you for the new novice and awards you:

    • +500 XP

    • Tondral’s vote for joining the Swamp Camp/Brotherhood faction.

Critical Mistakes to Avoid (Don’t Waste Time)

  • Looking next to Juro: In the original Gothic game, Melvin was positioned next to Juro, but in the Remake he’s nowhere near Juro.

  • Only checking Baal Cadar’s circle: You must find Baal Tyrondal’s preaching circle specifically — don’t stop at the first preacher.

  • Missing the second preacher entirely: The two preachers look nearly identical — check both preaching circles carefully.

  • Trying to bribe the north gate: Only the south gate guard accepts the 100 ore bribe.

  • Not escorting Dusty personally: Dusty won’t follow automatically — you must actively lead him back to the Swamp Camp.

  • Forgetting to talk to Baal Tondral with Dusty present: The quest won’t complete unless you speak to Tondral while Dusty is standing nearby.

Mastering this quest unlocks your path to the Brotherhood faction — the 500 XP reward helps early progression, and Tondral’s vote is mandatory for joining. Remember: Melvin sits at the second preaching circle with Baal Tyrondal, not near Juro. Follow the steps above, bribe the south gate with 100 ore, escort Dusty carefully, and you’ll complete New Souls For The Brotherhood without wasting time searching the wrong spot.
