Gothic 1 Remake: How to Be a Necromancer and Summon an Army of Skeleton Warriors and Fire Demons

To be a full Necromancer summoning-focused character in Gothic 1 Remake, and obtain the “Necromancer” title late in the game you must follow a specific path which includes never joining the Swamp Camp and learning the 6th magic circle from Xardas. Here’s everything you need to know.

Key Requirements to Become a Necromancer

Requirement Details
Don’t join Swamp Camp If you join Swamp Camp, you can only reach 4th circle magic, missing the bridge to 5th/6th circle where Necromancy exists 
Learn 6th Circle from Xardas Xardas teaches you the 6th magic circle, which changes your guild to Necromancer 
Timing This happens very late in the game – you won’t have much time to use Necromancy spells before finishing 
Summoning Limitation Only a fixed number of summoning scrolls exist in the game, so a true summoning-focused build isn’t possible 

How to Unlock Magic First (Required Foundation)

Before pursuing Necromancy, you must unlock magic ability:

Step 1: Find Mage Torrez in Old Camp

  • Head to the Old Camp, southwest area

  • Find mage Torrez (also called Taurus/Torres) near the well (he only appears during daytime)

Step 2: Complete “The Price of Magic” Quest

Torrez requires:

  • 2 Wolf Claws (can be bought from a merchant near the well)

  • 1 Blank Parchment (buy from map maker near northern gates, turn right past cauldron)

Step 3: Choose Your Rune Reward

After completing the quest, choose between:

  • Fireball Rune (fire mage path – Old Camp).

  • Healing Rune (recommended – costs more mana but saves health).

Step 4: Progress Through Magic Circles

  • Interact with Torrez to buy more spells

  • Advance through magic circles: Novice → 1st → 2nd → 3rd → 4th → 5th → 6th

  • Avoid Swamp Camp to reach 6th circle

Step 5: Meet Xardas Late Game

  • Near the end, Xardas will teach you the 6th magic circle

  • Your guild automatically changes to Necromancer

  • You gain access to high-level Necromancy spells (summoning an army, not just single skeletons).

Critical Mistakes to Avoid

  • Joining Swamp Camp = max out at 4th circle, no Necromancy possible.

  • Starting Necromancy too late = minimal gameplay time with the build before game ends.

  • Expecting unlimited summons = only limited summoning scrolls exist in the game.

The Necromancer path is essentially a late-game title unlock rather than a fullplayable build. For a magic-focused character, most players recommend Fire Mage (Old Camp) since fire spells have burning effects and are more practical throughout the game.
