From the north gate, go right past the water area and Gravo’s shack, continue down, and you’ll find Torrez by the well just before the marketplace.

Step 2: Buy Blank Parchment from Graham (Map Maker)

Travel to the north gate of the Old Camp (where you originally entered). Find Graham, the map maker—a  plainly dressed man with a short black beard wandering near his shack or the cooking cauldron.

Buy 1 Blank Parchment for 13 ore nuggets.

Step 3: Obtain Two Wolf Claws

You have two options:

Option A: Buy from Mordrag (Easiest)

  • From Torrez, head through the market area and out the other side.

  • Look left for Mordrag sitting inside a shack.

  • Ask him to “show the goods” and buy 2 Wolf Claws for 7 ore nuggets each (14 total).

Option B: Free Method (Kill Wolves)

  • Head out the north gate across the bridge into the woods.

  • Find the wolf den north of the bridge.

  • Lure a wolf back to the bridge guards who will kill it.

  • Loot the body for Wolf Claws.

Step 4: Return to Torrez and Learn Magic

Go back to Torrez at the southwest market area.

Hand him the parchment and 2 wolf claws. He’ll explain magic basics and offer to teach you Rune Magic for 5 learning points.

Step 5: Choose Your First Rune

You can select one of two runes:

  • Fire Bolt Rune (recommended): High-damage projectile you can spam at range

  • Healing Rune: Restores HP (less essential since you can heal by eating)

Fire Bolt is the better choice for early combat since it gives you powerful ranged damage without needing arrows.

Critical Mistakes to Avoid

  • Don’t skip collecting ore nuggets: You need at least 27 ore nuggets total (13 for parchment + 14 for claws).

  • Don’t venture too far early: Wolves are fearsome without armor; use the guard trick (letting the guards kill the wolves for you) if you can’t buy claws.

  • Don’t choose Healing Rune first: Fire Bolt provides immediate combat advantage; healing is manageable through food.

  • Remember Torrez’s location: He’s near the well by the cloth-covered market in southwest Old Camp, not at the north gate.

What Happens After Unlocking Magic?

Once you learn rune magic, you gain access to the Novice Magic Circle. You can now:

  • Use any spell from Circle 1 if you have the corresponding rune

  • Return to Torrez anytime to buy more spells from his shop

  • Find or kill other mages to loot additional spell runes

  • Manage mana by using drugs like Green Novice (buy from Dexter) to regenerate

Runes are permanent spells unlike single-use scrolls, giving you infinite-use magic as long as you have mana.
