In Marathon, you must defeat the Frost Warden by activating the Complex encounter with an Observation Labs key, then break the wall boxes whenever the central room object turns red during the fight.

How to Spawn & Fight the Frost Warden

Step 1: Farm 3 UESC Certs for Network Tower

Kill UESC enemies that drop loot packs to collect 3 UESC Certs. These drop from every bot that drops a loot pack on the floor.

Once you have three, activate a network tower at any main point of interest.

Step 2: Loot Cache for Observation Labs Key

Activating the tower spawns a cache somewhere on the map.

Travel to it and loot for the Observation Labs priority item.

Alternatively, interact with red chests during the Warden event to find the key, though this usually spawns late.

Step 3: Collect 7 More UESC Certs (10 Total)

Gather 7 additional UESC Certs (10 total) to open either garage door on Complex.

Certs drop from most UESC enemies and can also be found on dead players or in containers.

Step 4: Enter Upper Complex & Start Encounter

Head to Complex’s upper floors using the garage door you unlocked.

Fight through bots, go up the elevator, then interact with the Door Controls stand at the end of the room.

This opens colored security boxes with upward arrows.

Step 5: Shoot Boxes to Open Doors

Break the colored security boxes to open their corresponding doors.

Each room has blue squares (open doors) and one red square (opens extra room if hit). Progress through all doors until reaching the middle room.

Step 6: Insert Key & Spawn Frost Warden

In the middle room, find the big control panel and use your Observation Labs key to activate the encounter.

This spawns waves of UESC enemies plus the Frost Warden boss with a gold shield.

Step 7: Execute the Boss Mechanic

During the fight, watch the object at the center of the room.

When it turns red, immediately look around and break the security boxes on the walls. The wall image shows how many boxes you need to destroy to progress. Repeat until the encounter completes.

Step 8: Claim Prestige Loot

After defeating the boss, go to the room opposite where you fought the Frost Warden.

Inside you’ll find the prestige loot room with high-end drops.

Critical Mistakes to Avoid

• Don’t turn on your flashlight outside — it hurts you more than helps by making you visible from distance

• Don’t rush through POIs — noise reveals position and you can hit environmental hazards

• Don’t use ARs/LMGs/snipers indoors — short sightlines make them ineffective without thermal optics

• Don’t forget to track your Certs — losing them before exfil means you can’t extract

• Don’t ignore the red center object — missing the mechanic window wastes damage phases

• Don’t bring railguns/exotics — save them for Cryo; they’re overkill here.
