What to know

  • You need the Yellow Umbrella before attempting this jump.
  • The Pit Preserver trinket is highly recommended to make the maneuver safer.
  • Perform a midair burrow release while above the pit.
  • Open the umbrella before landing to trigger the auto-jump that carries you across.

If you’ve reached the large pit in the Sifted Sands region in Mina the Hollower and are wondering how to get across, you’ll need a specific movement setup rather than a standard jump. The gap is too wide to clear normally, but Mina can use the Yellow Umbrella and a burrow maneuver to safely reach the other side.

Where to get the Yellow Umbrella in Mina the Hollower

Before attempting the crossing, you must obtain the Yellow Umbrella from Ossex. Travel east or northeast from the surrounding areas until you reach the umbrella’s location. The item can be found near the bottom section of the Mourner’s Mile Knight Rest area and is required for the glide portion of the maneuver.

Without the umbrella, crossing the pit using the method shown in the guide is not possible.

Why the Pit Preserver trinket helps

The Pit Preserver is not strictly required according to the demonstration, but it significantly reduces the risk of failure. Since the maneuver involves timing a burrow release while suspended above a deadly drop, the extra safety provided by the trinket can save you from repeated attempts. You can buy the Pit Preserver from any Poppit Shop.

Can you use other items instead?

Some players have suggested that traversal tools such as the Web may offer alternative ways to cross the pit. However, the demonstrated and confirmed method uses the Yellow Umbrella. Alternative solutions have not been widely verified, so the umbrella technique remains the most reliable approach.

The Sifted Sands wide pit is essentially a movement puzzle that tests your understanding of Mina’s traversal abilities. By obtaining the Yellow Umbrella, optionally equipping the Pit Preserver, and correctly timing a midair burrow release followed by umbrella deployment, you can clear the gap and continue exploring deeper into the Sandfalls region without getting stuck.
