What to know
- Science is a Knowledge skill that boosts learning speed for related science activities.
- Biology, Astronomy, and Surgery are sub-skills under Science.
- You can currently increase Science Knowledge through computers, bookshelves, and some science-related activities.
- Biology progression appears limited or bugged in the current Early Access build, and many players report that it does not level normally.
After reaching the point where your Para starts developing career interests, you’ll notice that Science is one of the main Knowledge categories in Paralives.
Quick overview of the Science skills
| Skill | Type | Current upgrade method |
|---|---|---|
| Science | Knowledge Skill | Study on computer, read books, science-related activities |
| Biology | Practical Skill | Intended to be learned on computer, but currently limited |
| Astronomy | Practical Skill | Intended computer learning; telescope mainly increases Science |
| Surgery | Practical Skill | Not fully available yet |
How the Science skill works
The Science Knowledge skill acts as a parent category. When you improve Science Knowledge, your Para becomes better at learning science-related skills underneath it.
According to the in-game descriptions, Science covers:
- Biology
- Astronomy
- Surgery
You can raise Science Knowledge by:
- Using a computer and selecting science learning options.
- Reading skill books or studying science topics from bookshelves.
- Using science-related objects such as telescopes, which currently contribute to Science Knowledge.
How to get the Biology skill
The game description for Biology says:
“Your skill level in biology. Improve it by learning about it on the computer.”
Purchase or use a computer. Click the computer and look for study or learning interactions related to Science or Biology.
Allow your Para to spend time researching and studying. Check the Skills panel periodically to see whether Biology experience is increasing.

Why Biology may not be leveling up
Many players currently report that Biology does not gain levels properly even when following the in-game instructions. Community testing and skill guides suggest that Biology, Astronomy, and Surgery are not fully implemented yet in the current version of Paralives Early Access.
As a result:
| Issue | Current status |
|---|---|
| Science Knowledge leveling | Working |
| Biology leveling | Limited / partially implemented |
| Astronomy leveling | Limited implementation |
| Surgery leveling | Not fully available |
| Science career preparation | Partially available |
Several guides specifically mention that while the game displays Biology as a learnable skill, there is currently no reliable gameplay loop that consistently levels it up like Cooking, Programming, or Painting.
How to increase Science faster
If you’re preparing for future science careers, focus on increasing the main Science Knowledge skill:
- Use a computer frequently to study Science.
- Read science-related books whenever available.
- Use a telescope if you own one.
Keep your Para in a good emotional state because needs and emotions can affect skill gain speed.

Using cheats to level Biology
If you simply want Biology levels for testing or career progression, cheats currently work.
Open the cheat console with:
Ctrl + F1
Then use:
LEVELUPSKILL Biology
or
SETSKILLLEVEL Biology 10
(replace 10 with any desired level). The Biology skill ID is simply Biology.
Right now, the safest approach is to treat Science Knowledge as the main skill you can actively train, while Biology, Surgery, and Astronomy remain unfinished systems waiting for future updates. The developers have already included these skills in the game data and UI, so they are expected to become more functional in upcoming patches.
