What to know

  • The new Extraction system was added in Crimson Desert patch 1.06.00.
  • You can recover materials used in upgrading and refining equipment through any smithy.
  • Rare materials are refunded at 100%, while common resources return at 70%.
  • Extracted gear resets back to its original base state after the process.

The new Extraction feature in Crimson Desert is one of the most useful quality-of-life additions introduced in patch 1.06.00. If you previously upgraded or refined equipment and later regretted spending valuable crafting resources, you can now recover a large portion of those materials instead of permanently losing them.

This system is especially valuable for players experimenting with different weapon builds, armor paths, or late-game optimization. Since some rare crafting resources are difficult to farm, the ability to reclaim them significantly reduces the punishment for testing gear upgrades.

Where to use the Extraction from gears

You can access the Extraction system through any smithy NPC in the game. This includes smithies located in major towns as well as the smithy available in your main camp.

One confirmed example shown in the update demonstration is the smithy located in Hernand. However, the feature is not limited to that settlement alone. As long as the location includes a functioning blacksmith or smithy interface, the Extraction menu should appear after updating to patch 1.06.00.

This makes the feature very convenient because you do not need to travel to a unique vendor or special workshop.

How the new Extraction mechanic works

The Extraction system is designed to completely reverse the upgrade and refining progress of a weapon or armor piece. Instead of downgrading equipment one level at a time, the system resets the item fully back to its original acquisition state.

That means if you upgraded a weapon multiple times using ores, rare monster drops, refining stones, and Abyss materials, all enhancement progress will be removed during the extraction process.

In return, the game refunds a portion of the materials spent.

The system is essentially a controlled rollback mechanic that helps players recover valuable resources when changing builds or replacing outdated equipment.

What materials are refunded in extraction in Crimson Desert

One of the most important parts of the new system is the refund rate difference between rare and common resources.

Rare materials are refunded at 100%

High-value crafting materials are fully returned during extraction. This is extremely important for endgame progression because many rare resources require difficult farming activities or boss encounters.

Examples include:

Rare Material TypeRefund Rate
Asarian Scales100%
Abyss Artifacts100%
Other rare enhancement materials100%

This means you can safely experiment with powerful gear upgrades without permanently wasting hard-earned rare resources.

Common crafting materials return at 70%

Standard crafting resources do not receive a full refund. Instead, the game returns approximately 70% of the materials originally spent during upgrading and refining.

Examples shown include:

Common MaterialRefund Rate
Iron Ore70%
Blood Stone70%
Copper Ore70%

Although this is not a full recovery, it still greatly reduces the overall cost of changing equipment paths compared to older systems where materials were lost permanently.

Important limitations you should know

The Extraction feature has a few restrictions players should understand before using it.

The biggest limitation is that you cannot partially extract upgrades. The system only resets equipment entirely back to its base version. If you upgraded an item several times, you cannot choose to remove only one enhancement tier.

Another important restriction is that the item must always be unequipped before extraction begins.

Players should also remember that common resources are not refunded fully, so repeated upgrading and extracting can still consume materials over time.

The new Extraction mechanic dramatically improves build flexibility in Crimson Desert. Before patch 1.06.00, investing heavily into a weapon carried significant long-term risk because resources were effectively locked into that item permanently.

Now you can test different combat styles, elemental paths, and equipment setups with far less punishment.

This is especially useful for players entering mid-game and endgame content where stronger gear options frequently replace older equipment. Instead of abandoning fully upgraded gear and losing all invested resources, you can recycle much of that investment into your next weapon or armor piece.

The feature also helps reduce frustration for newer players who accidentally spend rare materials too early.
