By finding him at every disguise location, you can unlock a rare hidden achievement while also earning the free Arc “The Great Thief” and additional upgrade copies.

The hidden chain revolves around locating a suspicious NPC called Dou Saburou, also known by players as Danzaburou. Every encounter follows a similar structure where he attempts to escape by transforming into random nearby objects or enemies.
The red scarf is always the giveaway. Even when disguised as another object, enemy, or environmental prop, the scarf helps identify the correct target.
You do not permanently fail the sequence if you choose incorrectly. You can simply retrace your steps and continue the chase until the correct disguise is found.
Location 1 in Unheard Shore
The first encounter is the easiest and introduces the disguise mechanic. Teleport to the CP point in Unheard Shore and move toward the Momin Street garage area. You are searching for a suspicious man standing near a green car.

Step 1
Talk to the man wearing the scarf near the garage area. This begins the hidden encounter.

Step 2
Once the chase begins, follow Danzaburou as he escapes through the area.

Step 3
He will begin disguising himself as different objects. Watch carefully for the red scarf attached to the correct transformation.

Step 4
One of the disguises becomes a beach umbrella. Select the version with the scarf attached. Finish the encounter sequence to receive the free Arc reward, The Great Thief.

Location 2 in Unheard Shores forest
The second encounter becomes more combat-focused. Teleport to the second CP point in Unheard Shores and head into the nearby forested area. Look for a camp setup deeper inside the woods.

Step 1
Approach the camp and locate Dou Saburou.

Step 2
The disguise sequence starts again, but this time the transformations escalate.

Step 3
Danzaburou transforms from:
- Dou Saburou
- Branch
- Knight enemy

Step 4
Defeat the Knight form to progress the encounter chain. After defeating the enemy version, the quest progression updates automatically.

Location 3 Danzaburou encounter
The third location is the one most players struggle with because interaction bugs may prevent progression. Travel toward the main road near the camp area after completing the previous encounter to find a girl on the left side.

Step 1
Search along the roadside for the next disguised version of Danzaburou, a girl on the right side. Attempt to interact normally.

Step 3
If the interaction prompt fails or nothing happens, the sequence has bugged. But as you continue to move towards it, it triggers automatically.

Step 4
Chase after the Danzaburou and reach their white camp area. Here, you defeat the alien boss disguise.

Step 5
At the end, Danzaburou splits into 3. Find the correct one, and complete the segment.

Location 4 in Hankaku Street
The fourth and final encounter concludes the hidden chain and unlocks the achievement. Teleport to the final CP point in Hankaku Street. After spawning, turn left and continue toward the vending machine area.

Step 1
Look carefully around the vending machines for suspicious disguises.

Step 2
Identify the correct target using the red scarf clue.

Step 3
Complete the final chase interaction. After the sequence finishes, the hidden achievement unlocks automatically.

Why The Great Thief Arc is worth getting early
Even though this is technically a hidden side activity, the rewards are surprisingly valuable for early and mid-game progression.
The Great Thief Arc is especially useful because the duplicate copies earned through the chain help with upgrades immediately, saving additional farming time later. Since the encounters mainly involve exploration and short combat segments, this hidden quest is one of the more efficient free reward chains currently available in NTE.

The achievement itself is also missable if players never revisit the disguise locations, making this one of the more important hidden exploration objectives to complete early.
Important tips that make the Danzaburou quest easier
| Tip | Why It Matters |
|---|---|
| Always look for the red scarf | Identifies the correct disguise |
| Do not panic if you choose wrong | You can retry immediately |
| Follow every escape route carefully | Some disguises move farther than expected |
| Prepare for combat at Location 2 | Knight transformation must be defeated |
| Relog if interactions fail | Fixes the Location 3 bug |
The Danzaburou hidden chain is one of the most entertaining exploration secrets currently available in Neverness to Everness. Between the disguise mechanics, chase sequences, hidden achievement, and free Arc rewards, it offers far more value than most optional encounters in the game. If you want a quick way to secure The Great Thief Arc and additional upgrade materials without relying on banners or farming, this hidden quest is absolutely worth completing as early as possible.
