What to know
-
Trigger: Talk to John Brown at the P.I. Office right after you unlock the Glugging from the Deep mission but before you start it.
-
Objective: Find a Can of Sea Slugs inside a shipping container on the left side of the port during Fart Harbor.
-
Reward: 1 Prize token; failing to complete this will lock you out of the Real Deal Gumshoe achievement.
-
Timing: This side job must be done on the same run as Glugging from the Deep; you cannot return later.
“Slugs in the Shell” is the fourteenth and final side job in Mouse P.I. For Hire and is given by John Brown at the P.I. Office after you accept the Glugging from the Deep mission. The task is simple: locate a can of sea slugs aboard the docks of Fart Harbor and deliver it back to John so he can add it to his ever‑expanding recipe repertoire.
Because the job is tied directly to Glugging from the Deep, you must complete it in one continuous run; if you miss the can or skip the dialogue with John beforehand, you lose the side job permanently and can’t achieve Real Deal Gumshoe.
Slug in the Shell job details
Getting the side job: timing and dialogue
Before launching into Glugging from the Deep, head back to the P.I. Office and speak with John Brown; he will offer Slugs in the Shell the moment you’re viable for the mission. Always make sure you exhaust all of his dialogue options so the side job registers and appears on your compass.

If you have already started Glugging from the Deep and haven’t picked this up, you may no longer be able to get Slugs in the Shell on that save, which is why it’s best to double‑check John’s quests immediately after the mission is unlocked.
Once accepted, your top‑of‑screen compass will track John’s face icon, guiding you back to the P.I. Office later when you need to turn in the can.
Port layout and objective location in Fart Harbor
When you enter Glugging from the Deep, you’ll navigate through Fart Harbor’s docks, filled with shipping containers, crates, and the submarine area. The Can of Sea Slugs is not buried in a crate or behind a locked door; it sits inside a specific container on the left‑hand side of the port as you face the main dock and sub‑pen.

This container is usually grouped with several other tall metal shipping boxes, often near stacked pallets and wooden crates but not in the very center of the bay. The can will be clearly marked by the quest marker above it, so you can follow the waypoint directly if you keep turning toward the compass‑arrow‑box icon.
Step‑by‑step guide to completing Slugs in the Shell
Step 1: Accept the job at the P.I. Office
-
Finish the previous story mission and return control to the P.I. Office.

-
Walk directly to John Brown and talk to him until all dialogue options are gone.

-
Confirm that Slugs in the Shell appears in your quests and that the compass points to John.
Step 2: Start Glugging from the Deep with the side job active
-
Select Glugging from the Deep from the mission board or campaign menu.

-
If it is missing, reload to a save where you know you talked to John before starting the mission.
Step 3: Navigate to the left‑side container
-
As you reach the main dock area, orient yourself so the submarine pen is roughly in front of you.
-
Head to the left side of the dock (port‑side relative to the water) where a cluster of shipping containers sits.

-
Look for the container with the floating quest marker above it; the marker will appear as a small box/book icon above the can.
Step 4: Grab the Can of Sea Slugs
-
Approach the marked container and highlight the Can of Sea Slugs.

-
Interact with it to pick it up; the item will disappear from the environment and your quest log will update.

-
The log will still show that you must return to John Brown to complete the job.
Step 5: Return to the P.I. Office and turn in
-
Finish or skip the remaining Glugging from the Deep content as needed, then exit the level.
-
Back in the P.I. Office, walk to John Brown and open the dialogue with him.

-
Select the option to deliver the can; the quest will complete and you will receive 1 Prize token.
Rewards and impact on achievements
For players chasing 100% completion or the platinum‑style achievements in Mouse P.I. For Hire, Slugs in the Shell is one of the last pieces of the side‑job puzzle and is easy to overlook if you rush into Glugging from the Deep without checking John Brown’s dialogue. Because the game does not allow revisiting past levels via a mission select, a single missed job can permanently lock you out of the Real Deal Gumshoe reward, which makes this short errand unexpectedly important.
