In Nioh 3, you will encounter a locked gate blocking the enemy base near Mikatagahara Junction shrine in Hamamatsu Hill, requiring the Mountain Temple Key from Ii Naotora after prerequisite quests.

Head north from Hamamatsu Hill to Iinoya region for Ryotan Temple, where Ii Naotora waits at the gate; after that quest, return to Hamamatsu Castle Keep, then fast travel to Mikatagahara Junction shrine and follow the path northeast across a bridge to the locked gate.

How to unlock the base

Start by ensuring you have progressed to the Hamamatsu area after The Hamamatsu Incident main mission.

Step 1: Initiate Fated Land

Travel to Ryotan Temple in northern Iinoya and speak to Ii Naotora at the entrance gate.

Step 2: Complete Ryotan Temple

Follow Naotora through the temple: clear yokai in houses and courtyards, ring bells to weaken enemies, climb ladders and roofs for shortcuts, navigate bridges and stairs past a cemetery, then defeat boss Ryomen Sukuna (dual-body yokai with axe, sword, bow attacks). Speak to Naotora post-boss to finish.

Fast travel to Hamamatsu Castle Keep, talk to Ii Naotora to trigger Ii’s Memento myth and receive the Mountain Temple Key.

Step 4: Access the base

Fast travel to Mikatagahara Junction shrine, go northeast up stone stairs, cross the bridge, and unlock the gate at the end.

How to clear the enemy base

Enter the Mountain Temple grounds and eliminate yokai methodically to avoid ambushes.

Step 1

Defeat the first skeleton yokai just past the entrance gate.

Step 2

Check the far right side near a corpse for the second hidden skeleton.

Step 3

Climb the staircases to face the third yokai waiting at the top.

Step 4

Search upper right stairs behind another corpse for the fourth yokai.

Step 5

Approach the central Spider Lily patch where the Ninja Yoki spawns after the prior defeats.

Head to the pagoda summit for the samurai revenant boss; stay patient to dodge predictable combos.

Return to Ii Naotora at the castle keep to complete Ii’s Memento and claim rewards.
