What to know

  • Indestructible Pitons are Troglodyte Pitons: they never break and can be placed in harder rock that can reject normal pitons.

  • There are three total, each inside a guardian statue in The Vault, The Ancient, and The Secret.

  • The first one is reached by heading left from The Standing Stones campsite toward large Child statue landmark.

  • These pitons still use your normal carry capacity, so you are upgrading reliability, not increasing slots.

Indestructible Pitons are one of the most practical long-run upgrades in Cairn because they turn high-risk sections into consistent checkpoints and stamina stops without the usual fear of a piton cracking under stress.

Location

The earliest Troglodyte Piton comes from The Vault guardian statue: from The Standing Stones campsite, head left and use The Child bivouac area as your landmark.

How to get the Indestructible Piton from the statue

Step 1

Reach The Standing Stones campsite, then deliberately take the leftward route instead of continuing straight along the main ascent.

Step 2

Use giant The Child statute as confirmation you are in the right neighborhood.

Step 3

Next, climb the statue. You’ll need to get to the top where you’ll find a narrow crevice.

This path leads into a more secluded section.

Step 4

Once through the crevice, you will face a long wall that you’ll need to cross horizontally.

Use your existing pitons strategically to create rest points. Watch for small ledges that can provide momentary relief for your grip strength. At the end, you will also find other goodies such as Underground oak.

Step 5

Inside, interact with the guardian statue.

And obtain the Troglodyte Piton.

Step 6

Keep the Troglodyte Piton in your active piton loadout, remembering it occupies one of your normal piton slots rather than adding an extra slot.

Step 7

Start using it on sections where standard pitons are most likely to fail: harder rock faces and any place where a broken anchor would cost you a lot of progress.

How to use it efficiently after you get it

Place pitons at sensible intervals and before the nastiest moves, because pitons are both fall protection checkpoints and reliable stamina resets when you hang and go off belay.

A practical rhythm is spacing anchors roughly every 10 to 15 meters or right before overhangs and traverses, then using rappel control after placement to scout or adjust your route if needed.

Where are the other two indestructible pitons

The second guardian statue is in The Ancient area below the bridge that leads to The Palace of Wind, and the third is on the main path through The Secret area, making it hard to miss when you get there.

Once you pick up the Troglodyte Piton, you can plan harder lines with fewer losses from broken anchors, as long as you manage your six-slot capacity thoughtfully.
