Google is giving the Tab Groups feature on Chrome Android a massive overhaul. Already you can create tab groups and share them with others. But users with whom you share tab groups access the tabs independently and do not get updated when changes are made to the tab group. But things are about to change.
Soon, you’ll be able to give others continuous access to the shared tab groups. This way, the tab group will get updated for others whenever you make the changes on your end. This could include such things as deleting tabs, adding new tabs, changing the tab names, etc.
First spotted by eagle-eyed tech sleuth Leopeva64 (on X), the feature is still in its nascent stage in Chrome Canary for Android. The tweet highlights the change to the Tab group ‘Share’ option which requires you to add the email addresses of users to invite them to the group.
Apparently, you’ll also be able to see who’s got access to the tab group, manage their access, and stop sharing from the new menus.
It’s unclear right now if others will also be able to edit the shared tab group. If that happens to be the case, it will bring chrome tabs more in line with other workspace tools like Docs and Sheets, etc. where the shared file can be accessed and edited by others as well.
