What to know
- Apple has reduced the price of iPhones across the board following a reduction in basic custom duty for mobile phones.
- Apple has reduced the price of all iPhone models that are imported to India by up to 4.6%.
- iPhone Pro and iPhone Pro Max witness the biggest price cuts of Rs 5,900. Older iPhone generations receive a very modest price cut.
Apple has slashed the price of all iPhone models in India by up to Rs. 5,900. The change comes on the heels of a reduction in the basic customs duty (BCD) on consumer electronics and mobile components from 20% to 15%, as per India’s annual budgetary session.
Apple is passing on the benefits to consumers with a 3-4% price reduction. With this, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max models drop by Rs 5,100 and Rs, 5,900 respectively – a 3.7 percent reduction for both.
The biggest price cut, in terms of percentage, is for the entry-level iPhone SE which witnesses a drop of 4.6 percent or Rs 2,300.
The price cut for the standard iPhone 15 model and previous generations (iPhone 13 and iPhone 14), however, are only marginal. This is because these older models are assembled within the country and do not benefit from the customs duty relief. Expect no more than a reduction of Rs 300 which, given their initial price, hardly makes a dent.
Here’s a list of the revised prices of the different iPhones after the price cuts:
- iPhone 15 Pro Max – Rs 1,54,000
- iPhone 15 Pro – Rs 1,29,800
- iPhone 15 Plus – Rs 89,600
- iPhone 15 – Rs 79,600
- iPhone 14 Plus – Rs 79,600
- iPhone 14 – Rs 69,600
- iPhone 13 – Rs 59,600
- iPhone SE – Rs 47,600
The customs duty relief also does not benefit companies that do most of their device assembly within the country. So key players like Samsung, OnePlus, and Vivo don’t benefit from the budgetary cuts.
