Verizon may have disappointed 1st Gen. Moto X users with the Lollipop update delayed by almost 1 year. But Motorola for sure won’t make you suffer like that with the Marshmallow update.

For anyone wondering if the 1st Gen. Moto X will receive Android 6.0 Marshmallow update or not. We’d like to tell you that it most certainly will. It could take time though, the device is more than 2 years old now and Motorola already has Moto X Pure/Style, Moto X Play, Moto MAXX, Moto X 2nd Gen. 2014, Moto G 2015 and more devices in the line to get the Marshmallow update before Moto X 2013 does, and rightly so.

As for the hardware capability of Moto X 2013 to run Marshmallow update, we are pretty confident that the device will handle it just fine. Moto X 2013 handles Lollipop update without a flaw and on Marshmallow not much is changing from Lollipop as far as performance aspects are concerned, so it’ll fare well.

We expect the Android Marshmallow release to hit Moto X 2013 officially from Motorola in Q1 or Q2 2016. We know it’s far-fetched, but Motorola has a long of devices to give Marshmallow love to, it’s going to take a long time for the update to hit Moto X 2013.

As for the carrier specific variants of the device in US, below is a quick rundown of our expectations from each:

AT&T Moto X 2013 Marshmallow update

Model number: XT1058

AT&T would most probably won’t release Android 6.0 Marshmallow update to Moto X 2013. The carrier isn’t the most consumer friendly when it’s about being kind and supportive of older devices.

T-Mobile Moto X 2013 Marshmallow update

Model number: XT1053

T-Mobile Moto X 2013 may get the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update officially from Motorola and T-Mobile. However, it may take really long for it to happen.

Anyway, since you can unlock the bootloader on T-Mobile Moto X, installing a custom ROM like CM13 with Marshmallow update shouldn’t be a problem for you.

Sprint Moto X 2013 Marshmallow update

Model number: XT1056

Ditto T-Mobile!

Sprint may also release the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update to Moto X 2013 if T-Mobile variant does. We have seen the two carriers related when it comes to rolling out OTA updates, so we guess either both will give out the Marshmallow update to Moto X 2013 or neither will.

Note: We don’t mean there’s any official connection between Sprint and T-Mobile regarding software updates. We’ve just seen a similar pattern between the two, and that’s what we’re discussing.

Verizon Moto X 2013 Marshmallow update? You’re asking, seriously?

Model number: XT1060

Ah! Just forget it. Verizon rolled out the Lollipop update to Moto X 2013 only a week ago (almost a year after Lollipop’s release) so we don’t expect are pretty sure Verizon Moto X 2013 Marshmallow update won’t happen.

That’s all the info we have on the 1st Gen. Moto X 2013 Marshmallow update. If you’ve anything to add to this post, let us know about it in the comments section below.
